Home-Start Herts 'Mark Making' Event

Local Children and Families charity Home-Start Herts are holding an event to raise awareness of the importance of 'Mark Making' (creating scribbles, squiggles and patterns) on Tuesday 16th August, 11am – 4pm.

The event is being held in the exhibition area in Stevenage Town centre and will involve scribbling on the pavement, drawing activities and face-painting.

From our work with families, we are aware that whilst many children have opportunities to experiment with mark making from their earliest years, others have limited experiences for a variety of reasons.

Mark making is a fun and visible way for children to tell stories and express feelings, record what they have to say, solve problems and discover solutions.
Activities such as scribbling, drawing, printing and painting help children to progress in all areas of learning and development, and support them to become confident and competent communicators.

Suzy Moody Strategic manager, Home-Start
"We are delighted to have support from Stevenage Borough Council who have given us permission to draw on the ground, BT who have provided some of their staff to volunteer for the event and Portia Rohm of HBI TV, The Hertfordshire Business Independent, who will be our videographer on the day".

Suzanne Bissell, BT
"We are really pleased to be able to support Home-Start with this event and our staff are looking forward to getting involved on the day"
