North Hertfordshire College Launch Engingeering, Manufacturing & Construction Apprenticeship Offer

North Hertfordshire College (NHC) has today announced the launch of its brand new engineering, manufacturing & construction apprenticeship offer. The apprenticeships will be delivered at NHC's Engineering & Construction Campus which is currently benefitting from a £900,000 investment in industry-standard equipment and facilities.

The apprenticeship offer has been carefully crafted in consultation with local businesses from the engineering, manufacturing and construction sectors, to address local and national current and emerging skills needs.

NHC offers a compelling proposition, supporting businesses to navigate the apprenticeship landscape and get the best value from Government's funding for apprenticeships. They will also help businesses recruit, by looking first to the pool of trained, qualified students graduating from the College's full time programmes each year.

The diverse apprenticeships on offer will prepare learners for a range of trades in the engineering, manufacturing and construction industries such as fabrication and welding, plumbing and electrical installation.

Kit Davies, Principal, North Hertfordshire College said:

"Our apprenticeship offer has been designed to help businesses find the people they need in order to improve and grow in today's rapidly evolving business environment.

"Apprenticeships are a great way to attract and train young people when they first join a business, and can also be used as a tool to help existing employees to improve their skills and progress in their career."

With the support of the Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership, NHC has invested over £900,000 into the engineering and construction campus, to ensure that the standard of the facilities available to learners matches those of the businesses in the sector.

Once the upgrade is complete, facilities will include a fully-equipped mechatronics lab, a computer aided design suite, a comprehensive workshop facility and a fully equipped electronics lab.

NHC have also committed to opening their brand new facilities to small and medium-sized local businesses who will be able to use the equipment to develop their business and train their own workforce.

Adrian Hawkins, Chair of Hertfordshire LEP's Skills and Employment Board and Hertfordshire LEP Board Member, said: "Our £400K investment to provide upgraded industry-standard engineering equipment has enabled the college to provide a state of the art learning environment attuned to the needs of local employers.

"We know how vital it is to deliver higher level apprenticeships, particularly in relation to engineering, technology and construction. By replicating a modern sector workplace, apprentices will be equipped to enter the local workforce and make a valuable contribution to the local economy.
