Luton Hoo Hotel nurtures local golfing talent ahead of Bridgestone Challenge in September

From 7-10 September, the championship golf course at Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa will host the European Challenge Tour's Bridgestone Challenge for the first time.

The Bridgestone Challenge provides a stage for some of the most talented rising stars to realise their dreams and move a step closer to a European Tour card or appearance. Members of the public are invited on to the hotel's estate to watch live golf and experience the atmosphere and thrills of this fantastic sporting event.

To mark the occasion, Luton Hoo is nurturing the skills of three local budding golfers before they compete in the Bridgestone Challenge Pro-Am.

Greg Matthew, Steve Howarth and Tim Read each won a competition prize of four tuition sessions with Luton Hoo's Head PGA Golf Professional Craig Ferris and a place in the Pro-Am. The four sessions are focusing on their technique from the green outwards, concentrating primarily on putting, an under-utilised part of the game according to golfer Greg Matthew: "Putting is often overlooked but it actually makes up, on average, 43% of the whole game. None of us has ever had a lesson on putting before so it is fantastic to gain new skills in this area."

Commenting on the sessions, Craig Ferris said: "My main objective of the first lesson was to showcase the importance of all shots inside 100 yards with a particular focus on putting. I decided to focus on this as, I believe, if a golfer wants to improve their scores they must appreciate and commit to improving this area of the game. Across the four sessions I will be working with Greg, Steve and Tim to improve their overall game but particularly within the scoring zone, meaning all aspects of the game inside 100 yards of the hole, which I hope will set them in good stead for the Bridgestone Challenge Pro-Am."

The 7,107-yard, par 73 golf course at Luton Hoo is hugely popular with professionals and amateurs alike. Sculpted from the original Victorian nine-hole course, players at Luton Hoo can enjoy 18 holes within the hotel's 1065-acre estate, including six holes with water features. Group and private golf tuition is also available. Whether an absolute beginner or a seasoned expert, Luton Hoo's resident PGA Golf Professional Craig Ferris will help you shave shots off of your game.
